Hi Merelin, unfortunately there are a variety of ways a system can lock up with this error message, but we need to get the dmesg and /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state from point of failure (while system is locked up).

Easiest way is to let apport capture it directly, which it does automatically much of the time. I'll close this bug in hopes that next time it happens apport will catch it and you can file a new bug that way. If not, please manually collect the info and reopen this bug report.

This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu6

---------------
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-4ubuntu6) natty; urgency=low

  * Add 117_946gz_isreally_965g.patch: 946gz was listed as a 915-family
    chip but it's actually just a marketing name for 965g. Fixes a GPU
    lockup that occurs with this hardware during boot.

Merelin, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue using the new xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu6 package? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Christopher,

It was been resolved quite a while ago. I don't remember the exact version but can say for sure in xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 (precise) it is OK.
Suppose the bug can be closed.

Thank you!
