No, I purged all tetex-* packages before installing them again,
answered to all the questions that I would like the files to be managed
by debconf, and selected only french as hyphenation.

/usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat
which is a link to /etc/texmf/language.dat

I'm sending the file as an attachment, I just hope Apple Mail will send
it well.

I'm using a stable debian for my TeX documents anyway, just trying to
help, take your time =)

I got the same error. You can test this quite easily with a fresh
installation by just answering "yes" to the question if debconf should
manage language.dat and accepting the default regarding the
hyphenation patterns (which is french and ngerman). The resulting
/etc/texmf/language.dat will look like this:

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% The following languages are disabled by default. Uncomment, what you need.
% To enable, remove %! and the space.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% French and German, TWO lines each!
french frhyph.tex
=patois
german dehypht.tex hypht1.tex
=austrian
For use with ngerman.sty (neue Rechtschreibung):
ngerman dehyphn.tex hypht1.tex
=naustrian

bahasa inhyph.tex
basque bahyph.tex
croatian hrhyph.tex
czech czhyph.tex % depends on csplain being installed
danish dkhyphen.tex

etc.

Package: tetex-bin
Version: 2.0.2-17
Followup-For: Bug #263343

I've just made a fresh install of the "latex" virtual package, which
bought me tetex, and I've faced the same situation than described on
this bugreport. I've did both letting debconf to generate language.dat
and not, and they both failed. I had the same situation with ppc
packages.

Error messages and notifications are the same as described before,
and package remains not properly installed.

Got it, thanks.
As Fredrik Jonson already pointed out the language.dat is broken. It
got broken by one patch, we apply. We'll fix that soon.
Thanks for the report.

I got the same error. You can test this quite easily with a fresh
installation by just answering "yes" to the question if debconf should
manage language.dat and accepting the default regarding the
hyphenation patterns (which is french and ngerman). The resulting
/etc/texmf/language.dat will look like this:

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% The following languages are disabled by default. Uncomment, what you need.
% To enable, remove %! and the space.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% French and German, TWO lines each!
french frhyph.tex
=patois
german dehypht.tex hypht1.tex
=austrian
For use with ngerman.sty (neue Rechtschreibung):
ngerman dehyphn.tex hypht1.tex
=naustrian

bahasa inhyph.tex
basque bahyph.tex
croatian hrhyph.tex
czech czhyph.tex % depends on csplain being installed
danish dkhyphen.tex

etc.

Subject: tetex-bin: same issue on fresh install
