Subject: php4: fails post-installation; returned error exit status 20
Package: php4
Version: 4:4.3.8-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Hello.

I tried to `dpkg -i` 4.3.8-2, 4.3.8-1, 4.3.4-4, 4.3.4-2 and 4.3.4-1 with
the same result. Then I got bored and tried 4.3.3-1 for a chagne - there
was something new, the installation process hung. So I tried 4.3.3-2,
which worked, and then upgraded it without a problem to 4.3.8-3 in one
go.

There is no reason why the php4 postinst script would be outputting
directory names on its own. Something else seems to be broken on your
system.

Well, I don't know what exactly would be a useful information -
it's a freshly installed[1] sarge upgraded to sid. Can you test
a fresh install on an i386 (as opposed to alpha) machine?

already identified by the Apache maintainers.

Agreeing with Steve - this looks like a broken system, rather than a packaging
problem. NOTWARTY
