Bug Description

It'd be great to have a guide to fix FTBFS bugs. At least a few common cases we should discuss and point out advice on how to fix them.

I totally agree. (Trying to) Fix FTBFS bugs is often one of the early steps
for new devs and without any guide I feel this task is pretty complicated.

couple of hints (missing library, request a sync), maybe it could be a starting point.
I really believe helping people in this phase is crucial (the risk is they give up).

It might help to list a few common examples (missing build-deps, transition, API/code changes, etc.)

Jackson: I added it and pushed it to lp:~dholbach/ubuntu-packaging-guide/noskcaj-ftbfs - can you check that it's what you wanted to see in the guide? (Branch it, run 'make html' and check the output in ./_build/)

If it's all right, can you propose it as as merge proposal for this bug? Thanks a bunch in advance.
