Default video output is wrong

Bug Description

When I upgraded to edgy my video output worked fine. Yesterday it stopped working (might be related to some update!?). Problem is the auto video output doesn't work. When I change from auto to opengl it works again.

This is not specifically a gxine problem: gxine itself doesn't handle video, and I would expect other xine-lib front ends (at least) to show the same problem.

It could be a xine-lib problem, but I suspect X, kernel or possibly proprietary graphics card taintware if you're using any. What has been upgraded recently? (/var/log/dpkg.log may help.)

Alternatively, tell gxine to let xine-lib choose which video driver, then play with the configuration - you may find that it's as simple as (for Xv) disabling video.device.xv_autopaint_colorkey via the prefs window.

Changed in gxine:
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

It will most likely be a X/kernel problem.
I looked up the loaded modules and instead of i830 (the chipset I have) the new i915 is loaded. Regardless whether 915 is implementing all the stuff implemented in 830 - it's newer and probably not as stable as 830 is. What do I have to change in order to get i830 loaded again?

I think maybe you should change the package to intel xorg.

I tested some more and it seems to be a problem of the i915 driver.
I'm currently running on 1600x1200 resolution and I get no video - when I switch to 1024x768 resolution I get video all right. So I think since the internal monitor is just capable of 1024x768 pixel it doesn't know what to display when gstreamer/xine want to write something in a buffer or so...

BTW: This worked with the old 830 driver! And - it doesn't work on any resolution above 1024x768 - which is exactly the max of the internal monitor.
