Steps to reproduce:

When I try to edit a specific repository by navigating to Other Software, selecting the repository, and then clicking Edit, any changes I make are not saved. I am prompted to login to make administrative changes, and my account is properly set up as an administrative account, I am able to use the sudo command.

In the terminal, text similar to this is outputted:
WARNING: can not get name for '<CellRendererText object at 0x2ead1e0 (GtkCellRendererText at 0x34ce6c0)>'

This problem arises when using the repository http://ppa.launchpad.net/darkmoon/ppa/ubuntu
I used the command sudo add-apt-repository ppa:darkmoon/ppa

I don't see how this has anything to do with gtkmm. What application are you using?

hi Murray

from top report, i've written: "by the way i'm not sure about which package to blame. "

later this has been changed to "software-properties"

so your question above is out of context here.

@murrayc: Status of ubuntu/gtkmm2.4 is Invalid, so please ignore that (this is actually a bug in ubuntu/software-properties).
