Still happens for me, but only when GConf /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager key is set. Now also crashes when launched from Run Application window, so possibly a different bug. Probably not a relevant bug anymore considering current developments with composited windows and eye candy.

Maybe spiftacity should be removed as a thoroughly obsolete, unnecessary, and dead/unmaintained package. (It would have been nice to see plain metacity with compositing for us simple people, but seems the world is moving towards compiz and/or beryl for desktop compositing)
