Not sure that there should be one, after all the launcher is becoming less and less a "solid" object with gaining transparency and all.

 importance low

There should be a small shadow from the top panel on the desktop. When
the launcher is locked in place, there should also be a shadow onto the
desktop from it as well, but when it's an overlay, that's not the case.

This needs to be implemented at the WM level. We will have to see how to make this work.

As it seems this patch introduced a regression.
The drop shadow is visible on all workspaces if you use <super>+<s>.
I would expect to see no shadow on the workspaces if I use the workspace switcher.

The same type of regression is visible when the panel opacity is set to a low value through the compiz settings manager.

Thanks for panel shadow, but it is too intensive. Please adjust that shadow to be the same darknes/intensity like regular shadows around the windows. I dont wanna open new bug for such a trivial thing :)

I did the update to 3.8.2 and I see no shadow under the panel. What's wrong you think?

I see the shadow, but agree it's too heavy. I think matching the
unfocused-window-shadow would be perfect.

I think compiz should be used to draw that shadow like in classic desktop (gnome-panel).
