Bug Description
Over the past couple of weeks, every time my netbook comes out of hibernate, the swap partition gets changed to an unknown type.
I first started with a shared swap between Maverick and Natty, Hibernate on Maverick works with out any problems, it's just Natty where the problem shows up. I've recreated the swap partition using the following command:
sudo mkswap /dev/sda3
the above command prints out the UUID of the swap partition. I then edot /etc/initramds-
sudo update-initramfs -c -k all
At the time, even a reboot would corrupt the swap partition making it unreadable. Checking with Gparted and DIsk Utility after a reboot showed the partition as unknown and when checking the UUID using:
sudo blkid
The swap partition never shows up.
I then did a fresh install using the latest Natty Daily Live CD. I can now reboot with out the swap partiton being destroyed, but hibernate still make it unusable. I installed the hibernate package from the repositories, hibernate now works, but now I get a black rectangle about the size of an open terminal in the upper left corner of the screen, that only a restart will clear.

This is actually triggered by a change to the compression algorithm used for hibernate partitions. We need to support this new version in the userspace tools. Marking this a dup of bug #683605.
