I had to install Gnome Alsa Mixer to enable Headphone Jack Sense on my old HP nx6110. There is no jack sense option in gnome-volume-

AFAIK jack-sensing is a feature that depends on how well the kernel driver supports the specific card you are using.
I'm reassigning this bug to the 'linux' package. Could you please run 'apport-collect 675287' to add all the information about your sound cards to this bug?
