Bug Description

In my workstation the upgrade path from Lucid to Maverick was broken by an unexpected need to install blcr-dkms, which is broken in maverick (Bug 555729). It was pulled from the following dependency chain:

* tree-ppuzzle was installed in lucid. Its maverick version depends on openmpi-bin
* openmpi-bin recommends openmpi-checkpoint
* openmpi-checkpoint depends on libcr0
* libcr0 recommends blcr-dkms, which was blacklisted in dist upgrade, as per Bug 555729.

None of the above packages was installed in lucid, previously to the dist-upgrade, except for tree-ppuzzle. Removing tree-ppuzzle was the only way found to dist-upgrade.

There's also the problem that the dist-upgrade aborted when stomped with the blacklisted package, so I'm adding update-manager to the bug.

Maybe it could hold, or even remove the offending package (in this case, tree-ppuzzle)?
