Bug Description

If a local package file gets installed and the installation fails aptdaemon will show an unknown error. The installation of a local package can fail because e.g. it is of the wrong type, bad quality or the wrong architecture (32bit vs 64bit).

This error has been fixed in aptdaemon. Nowadays the correct error (package manager failed) gets shown.

If you are running on Ubuntu Maverick, please enable the proposed updates and update your machine.

Alternatively you can try to install the corresponding package from the command line:
sudo dpkg -i PACKAGE_FILE

If you still have problems installing packages contact the provider of the packages or the forums.

Title:
  VirtualBox installation fails

Status in Aptdaemon:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I tried to install VirtualBox version 3.2.10-66523~Ubuntu~maverick
(virtualbox-3.2) for Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit version) and i got the following error
message:
There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows
you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related
tasks. Please report this error at http://launchpad.net/aptdaemon/+filebug and
retry.

I run 32 bit Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition inside of VMWare Player. i got the
installer for Virtual Box at:
  http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads
and chose Ubuntu 10.10 ("Maverick Meerkat") I386. my computer is a Emachines
model T5247a and i have an Intel Pentium 4 dual-core E2180 2.00 GHz processor.
the host operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 2 32 bit.
this is my first time with Linux and I don't know what else to say but the very
first thing i did was download virtual box with Firefox and install it so I
don't think I did anything to screw stuff up. i got a new version from the
software center that seems to work fine.

An aptdaemon security update was released that does not include the fixes from this package in -proposed. A new package needs to be built for -proposed.
