Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

To reproduce:

1. Open Nautilus
2. Copy a file large enough to trigger the "File Operation" dialog (I just copied an ISO from a to b)
3. Close Nautilus

Now the Nautilus launcher shows a running indicator and its quicklist allows you to show the copy dialog (a small, empty window). You can quit it via the global menu or the quicklist, but that seems to only hide the dialog and Nautilus keeps showing the running indicator, which prevents starting another Nautilus window.

I'm not seeing this in a desktop session, or at least I don't know how to check if it happens there too.

The WM_CLIENT_LEADER id returned by using 'xprop' on the file copy dialog isn't available in a desktop session after the dialog closes, so this seems to be a UNE-only problem (I hope I picked the right property).

Seems to happen in unity session only (should be because nautilus isn't started as a background process).

Maybe not having this property hides a more serious laying issue.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Nautilus _is_ running in a Unity session after login.

that's because you change the gconf key or save your session. It shouldn't :)

Well, the unity team is on it in any case, that's a bad use case

Didn't change any gconf keys and didn't safe any sessions. To confirm, I just installed the daily Netbook ISO - same thing: Nautilus is running in the background.

Sorry, I mispoke :)
Yes, it's running on the background (to mount keys and such), but don't show the desktop :)

I now can open Nautilus (which fixes the important part), but the running-indicator is still shown.

Hernando, what does it mean that You can open Nautilus? Using terminal, or using launcher?

Omer: Thanks, but then let's also close this one's Unity task.

Tomasz: With Unity 0.2.46 I can open new Nautilus instances from the launcher, just the running indicator from the dialog is still present if there's no Nautilus window open.
