Bug Description

nautilus-elementary on maverick is giving me no search results, no matter what I type. I have both zeitgeist and tracker running (not sure which nautilus-elementary is supposed to be using), and using their respective UIs gives me results. Also the Unity files interface gives me results, so I am convinced the underlying infrastructure is working.

Is there something else to be installed to enable nautilus-elementary search to function?

hello,

are u using maverick?
nautilus-elementary (in maverick) use zeitgeist as its default search engine so if you got results in gnome-activity-journal you should get them in nautilus-elementary too. There's nothing more to install all the dependencies install all the stuff.
Got a screenshot of your empty search ? with gnome-activity-journal open too?

Yes, maverick plus am-monkeyd/nautilus-elementary ppa:
nautilus 1:2.31.92-0ubuntu4~ppa128
zeitgeist 0.5.0-0ubuntu2
libzeitgeist-1.0-0 0.2.10-0ubuntu1

I'll attach a screenshot as requested

This is weird gnome-activity-journal works ok in your screenshot so it can't come from dbus.
nautilus-elementary don't show files which has been removed or moved. (maybe it's your case)

Interesting to see if other people have the same problem. I got the ppa version installed too and it works fine on my computer.
I would make a test on a fresh installed system to check.

Hello, same problem here, an up-to-date maverick with nautilus-elementary from ppa - showing an empty screen upon search in nautilus, while the same query works fine in GAJ or sezen...

A fresh install is tricky for me at the moment, but I have tried firing up zeitgeist-daemon with loglevel set to DEBUG and watching what it turfs out when I try searching.

Using the Unity Files & Folders interface, the deamon logs things like:

DEBUG:zeitgeist.fts:Search '((Wi*) AND ((zgem:http://www.zeitgeist-project.com/ontologies/2010/01/27/zg#UserActivity))) AND (0..9223372036854775807ms)' gave 22 hits in 0.586986541748ms

which looks promising.

A search in GAJ doesn't give this, however, but panning along the timeline I get messages like:

DEBUG:zeitgeist.fts:Search '((Wi*) AND ((zgem:http://www.zeitgeist-project.com/ontologies/2010/01/27/zg#UserActivity))) AND (0..9223372036854775807ms)' gave 22 hits in 0.586986541748ms

not-unreasonable.

But doing a search in nautilus-elementary seems to stimulate no log output from zeitgest-daemon at all. Should it not provoke output similar to the Unity Files & Folders interface (i.e. zeitgeist.fts type stuff)?

Fresh Maverick install here too and no results when I search, GAJ works perfectly.

I just tried today to boot a daily live cd maverick-desktop-amd64.so .
I installed nautilus-elementary gnome-activity-journal and the zeitgeist searches work fine (as expected).

So i am guessing some other installed packages produce this mess.
Let's see what u have in common, let's see what packages u have installed on your systems.

Here's my "dpkg -l" log. Maverick installation is quite fresh, just few packages different from default are on. Hope this help, ask me more if you need.

seems there's a problem with 32 bits versions.
I tested a daily maverick desktop iso 32 bits and zeitgeist search engine return 0 results too while the amd64 version works ok.

Can you confirm that you're running 32 bits systems too?

I can confirm that I am facing this issue on my install as well. 32-bit Maverick, upgraded from Lucid. Searching in Activity Journal works, but no results in Nautilus-elementary.

Searching in nautilus-elementary, then backing out of the search (alt-left) when it failed to find anything actually crashed nautilus-elementary a couple of times, but I am not sure if this is due to the same bug, and I can't consistently recreate the crash.

Same here (0 results in nautilus search), ¿this is the problem?: https://answers.launchpad.net/nautilus-elementary/+question/129212

I'm not sure if I'm using Zeitgeist from ppa (elementary-desktop ppa) or is the same of Maverick native:
zeitgeist-daemon: 0.5.2
nautilus: 2.32.0

I can confirm that after yout patch it now works on a 32bit maverick. Thanks !
One minor flaw though, the file-category selection seems a little off when running with the side panel turned on - see attached screenshot. I think those buttons (Image, Document, Video) should be aligned with the main content panel, not the whole window.

@apart the filter bar design is not finished. We still don't know if we're moving the bar to the main view panel (ie where the files are) or if we use an extra bar right under the toolbar like it is actually. The split view can be a problem if we move the bar to the main panel because of the size occupations. Plus it's mainly a gtk theme problem, but anyway the design is not finished yet ;)
