I encountered the same error with the i386 08-27 daily build, but I had first booted into the Live Desktop and updated ubiquity to version 2.3.9.

In my case the crash notification popped up almost immediately after selecting "Specify partitions manually (advanced)". I had not even clicked on Install Now yet.

I just encountered this again with the first iso-testing i386 Live CD.

Let me know if I can provide more info and what info to provide.

Hang in there Evan :^)

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.3.13

---------------
ubiquity (2.3.13) maverick; urgency=low

  [ Mario Limonciello ]
  * When using xfsettingsd, set the background to black first.
  * Set release_notes_found to False initially to prevent a scenario it gets
accessed before being set when offline.

  [ Evan Dandrea ]
  * Only set the label on the 'use entire disk' button if we're not
going into the advanced partitioner (LP: #625258).
