Bug Description

Binary package hint: curl

Some programs, such as unrealircd, require that libcurl be built with c-ares support. Otherwise, libcurl cannot act asynchronously and will cause the client program to hang while curl tries to resolve hostnames.

Yes, the same seems to be the case for certain torrenting applications.

c-ares support is enabled as of curl 7.21.2-2. Now we only need to wait for that version to reach Natty.

As c-ares is needed for sub-second timeouts in libcurl, I'd very much like to see this subject reopened.

Hi, any chance we could make sure this makes it in Ubuntu at least in the next LTS?

This seems like a very useful feature in server/cloud environments.

As pointed above, this should be fixed by 7.32 and above. Still affects precise though which ships older..
