Thanks for the bug report. I can't reproduce this issue with 0.0.7-0lucid1. Could you confirm the version numbers for indicator-appmenu and appmenu-gtk?

Still an issue with appmenu-gtk 0.1.3-0ubuntu3 and indicator-appmenu 0.0.9-0ubuntu1.

This also affects applications that can be minimized to the old notification area (eg. Pidgin and Banshee) and unsupported apps (those with the generic "_File _Edit", like Chromium).

if it only happens in unity. it might be a unity bug rather?

Nope, it also happens in a GNOME session with the panel applet.

This bug is to account for the nautilus fixes and performance improvements that we are still looking for.

This is a request for a Feature Freeze Exception, per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#General Instructions

Proposed changes: Nautilus is slow to publish its menu on the panel and exposes issues where the menu can still be presented while the Nautilus window is not active anymore. This bug is to address changes required to make Nautilus and appmenu work well together
Rationale for the exception: Fixing the Nautilus case, should provide for a more solid appmenu implementation (GTK module, indicator), so we think it's worth pursuing despite the freeze
Additional information: no patch available yet

This seems to be only in a Unity session, not in a Desktop session using the panel applet.

Anything that stays running is affected by this, not just Nautilus. So for example, closing an Empathy window will cause the same thing to happen.

I just did an upgrade this morning and I'm not able to reproduce this on any of my Meerkat machines. Can anyone still reproduce? If so, any chance you can get me a stack trace?

I believe this is fixed with the indicator-appmenu 0.0.10 release. It changes the code that chooses which menu appears. Though, it will display a desktop menu from the desktop window now. And that comes from Nautilius, so it may appear like the nautilus window's menus are still there, but infact they're from the desktop window.

Can anyone confirm this is not fixed in Unity? In a desktop session everything's fine but in Unity I still see the same.
