Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Hi,
could you please take these actions and send me back all generated output and /tmp/hylafax-server.postinst.log?

1. change first few lines of /var/lib/dpkg/info/hylafax-server.postinst in this way:

#! /bin/sh -e
exec 2>/tmp/hylafax-server.postinst.log
set -x
# Automatically added by dh_installinit

2. execute command "dpkg --configure hylafax-server"

The problem is in Lucid hylafax version: it does not unmout correctly /var/spool/hylafax/etc and give error during updates and reinstall. The fix is quite simple: upgrade hylafax after having stopped it.
