Bug Description

Binary package hint: gwibber

In the app there should be a way to change the font and its size of the shown messages.

The font depends -- like all fonts inside applications -- on the setting in System > Preferences > Appearances. There on the tab Fonts the "application font". Changing this for gwibber would be inconsistent and break the design of the desktop.

I've tested and so this is actually a bug. The fonts of Gwibber (of the messages) do not change when the system font and its size is changed (that is to say the DPI).

I tried this under gwibber 2.30.0.1-0ubuntu3 but works fine for me, what version do you have installed?

Also using v2.30.0.1-0ubuntu3. Changing the "Application Font" setting works for me, but I don't agree that this is the correct design. First, it is quite common to provide application-specific font overrides (e.g., Firefox, Chrome, gedit, GNOME Terminal). Second, it is perfectly understandable to desire different font settings for small snippets of text appearing in menu titles vs. larger blocks of text as appear in Gwibber status updates. At the very least, the appropriate system-wide setting to pick up for status updates is the "Document Font" rather than the "Application Font". This is the setting that Empathy uses for chat sessions (it uses the "Application Font" for the contact list).

If I change the "App Font", this also works for me. However, it seems that you misunderstand me. I talking about the DPI setting that does not change Gwibber messages font size (the messages that are received) but only the Gwibber menu font size.

I can confirm that. If I change the "Application Font", the text in the Gwibber menus (i.e., Gwibber, Edit, Help) and the message text changes (but not the text in the sidebar, e.g., Home, Messages, Replies, etc.). If I change the system font DPI, the menu text changes, but the message text does not.

Miro, Is this the behavior you were concerned with when you opened this bug? If so, the title is misleading.

This is exactly what I'm concerned with! And I agree that the title is a bit misleading. We should change it into sth more adequate because in the beginning I just wanted to propose font and font size change option but it is more like a bug and not a wish-list anymore.
