Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythplugins

I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04, and in the process it installed mythgallery-0.23.0+fixes21404. While doing so it tried to create /var/lib/mythtv/pictures, and I got an error dialog complaining about 'error creating directory ... No such file or directory'.

On this frontend-only machine, /var/lib/mythtv/pictures is automounted read-only using NFS. Hence there's no way that the installer can create the directory, and I doubt this is a particularly unusual configuration for a MythTV frontend.

I also suspect that if it did try to automount that directory then it failed because I'd switched from wireless to wired network for the upgrade so that downloads would go faster, and that meant the machine's IP address changed and was no longer authorised to use the NFS server. Possibly the installer is smart enough not to try to create it if the automount works.

Having closed that dialog box, I see that mythvideo and mythmusic are doing the same for their directories in /var/lib/mythtv.

About ten minutes later I got another dialog box complaining that mythgallery can't be installed because mythgallery is already installed and configured.

And now 'The upgrade is now aborted. Your system could be in an unstable state'. Which then just dumps me out of the upgrade manager, doesn't do the 'cleaning up' step and doesn't reboot.

I'd say that if you can't create these directories you should just silently ignore the problem: the behaviour right now is simply horrible.
