Bug Description

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

This is a follow-up to bug 349341

xkeyboard-config needs to create a translation template (POT file) during the build process, so it can be uploaded to Launchpad Translations and translators can do their work.

The problem now is that it does not create it and an outdated xkeyboard-config.pot file in the debian directory is uploaded to Launchpad.

The solution would be to simply add a 'cd po; intltool-update -p' rule in debian/rules and remove the outdated debian/xkeyboard-config.pot file

In the meantime I've manually uploaded an updaed template, which will be imported soon. This will give translators the opportunity to translate the additional strings.

See https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/xkeyboard-config/+imports?field.filter_status=all&field.filter_extension=pot to track the progress of the import.

Note that the manual upload is not a permanent solution, since until this bug is fixed, any subsequent package upload will overwrite the manually uploaded one with the outdated one in the package.

Yes, generating .pot during build should resolve such issues for the long term. David, thanks for the concrete solution suggestion.

But, just an FYI, as of now, there are 2 .pot files Approved for import (as seen using David's link above): the first one w/ 728 strings, and the 2nd one w/ 681 strings (the latter judging by 681 appears to be the same as what's in LP right now). It appears to me the 2nd one will take precedence, which would mean that LP still wouldn't have and use the new .pot file). The only reason that matters is the deadline of the 15th, by which ideally everybody would make translation updates needed. Hopefully it will work out...

Thanks all.

It's the other way round: the first one in the queue is the outdated template with 681 strings, and the last one is the updated one I uploaded with 728 strings.

They will be imported in the order they are in the queue: first the 681-strings one and then the 728-strings one, so we should be ok. In any case, the fix for this bug will imply a third upload, again with an updated 728-strings template, so we should still be fine.

I'll have to check if xkeyboard-config is part of NonLanguagePackDeadline (today), but otherwise, I'm sure it will be imported before LanguagePackDeadline.

I stand corrected. I guess i was too tired to notice that the 1st one's date was the 13th, and not the 14th. Plus, i should have noticed by now that the queues are chronological. :)

Well, based on the following the translation updates might not make it in time for 10.04 release:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NonLanguagePackTranslationDeadline
But this definitely is something users will "survive", even if it is released as an update after the official 10.04 release.

Thanks all.
