Bug Description

We need to remove the subscriptions to all Ubuntu bugs as no one should really want to do this. We should make it so that no one can subscribe him/herself directly to all Ubuntu bugs in the future. However, ubuntu-bugs should not be removed as it is the mailing list used by Ubuntu QA.

If we can make this generic -- i.e. distributions don't allow normal direct subscriptions except for a single mailing list -- then great.

There is another "person", https://edge.launchpad.net/~debianpts, subscribed to all Ubuntu bugs that might be important to communicate with regarding this change - which seems to be a debian qa mailing list.

I wonder if the best thing to do is to remove all deactivated accounts and disallow any new subscriptions rather than removing all subscribers wholesale.

I agree with taking this approach. As we discussed at the lp/bzr epic, I'm open to the idea of sending a notice to the current, active subscribers telling them of this change. We can ask if they want unsubscribed and do it for them, or suggest the link for unsubscribing. The latter is easier and makes more sense, IMHO.

Hi,

I just saw this bug, and yes, debianpts should stay subscribed, as it's used to forward ubuntu bugmail to interested debian maintainers through the Debian Packages Tracking System.

See also the MP where I am arguing services like the debian PTS need
to still be able to subscribe.
