Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Empathy fails to revoke the online status of any given jabber connection. I currently have multiple jabber logins with slightly varying ressources (Telepathy.<multiple hex-digits>) although empathy hasn't been running for several days. The problem that logins don't time out may be a problem related to the jabber server rather than empathy, but I have never before had such a problem, and also do not have this problem at the moment with "gajim". This does not seem to happen arbitrarily, as I tried to reproduce it, and it even happens when empathy disconnects normally (not just on abnormal termination or loss of net connectivity).

My installation:
Description: Ubuntu 9.10

2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1 from main packages (karmic)

Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. It would be nice if you could test this with the most recent version of empathy, from Lucid. Go to https://edge.launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa and add the PPA to your sources and install the updated packages to see if it's fixed.

I'm sorry for not replying to you.
Shortly after submitting the bug-report I stopped using ubuntu and
therefore empathy, and forgot about the whole issue.

Sorry for not having more information.

I had the opportunity to run the current ubuntu version of empathy
(2.30.1−0ubuntu1) again. The probability of a proper logoff is much
higher if the connection persists for more than just a few seconds (20
seconds seem to be sufficient), but otherwise empathy still failes to
logoff correctly.

I hope this helps you find the problem.

It affects me too. When using a XMPP connectione (like Facebook), after closing empathy I appear as "online" in Facebook for about an hour.
