Audigy 2 input problems (low volume, not all inputs work)

Bug Description

In Ubuntu there are several bugs that prevent Audigy 2/4 sound cards from being used for audio input. The card I have to test is an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro (which is identical to the Audigy 4 Pro with the exception of the DAC).

1. Input levels are way too low, even when all inputs are set to 100% in alsamixer. There is a thread on the Ubuntu forums here <http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=198626> that has screenshots that illustrate the problem nicely.

2. The input "Line In 2" does not work at all within Ubuntu.

3. The inputs are labeled incorrectly; "Line In 1/Mic In", for example, is labeled "Line2" in alsamixer.

I have been informed that a bug report relating to the most important low volume issue has been open upstream since 2004. <https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=324> Maybe someone at Ubuntu can light a fire and finally get this bug squashed?

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'alsa'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

A patch has been provided upstream but I am unable to get it to compile. If someone else could take a whack at it, that would be great. (Please?) I'd be more than happy to act as a liaison between the Ubuntu community and the ALSA patch provider with regards to this issue.

Also, the patch appears to be incomplete, as it only addresses one revision of the Audigy2. You may therefore need to manually patch your sources if, like me, you don't own the revision that this patch addresses. Fortunately, it is a single line add, though I don't know if it's portable throughout the entire Audigy2 series.

Setting package from (undefined) to alsa-driver, so the bug won't appear in the lists of bugs without package
Can you confirm this bug still applies in edgy/feisty?
Thanks

We are closing this bug report as it lacks the information, described in the previous comments, we need to investigate the problem further and it has been outstanding for a very long period of time. However, please reopen it if you can give us the missing information and don't hesitate to submit bug reports in the future.

Changed in alsa-driver:

I am also using an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and I can confirm that the bug is STILL there in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy).

"Line in 2" is "Line 2" in alsamixer, but "Line In 1" seems to redirect to nothing.
The volume is correct from "Line in 1" or "Line in 2" (though the Line in 1 is mono, don't know if it's normal).
And I can't get any sound from the AUX Input (the cable plugged right in the card)

That's all I can verify for now.

I'm trying to get a standard build with auiology2 microphone working. Is there a link to the solution? thanks
