There is now a new upstream release (0.5.1) that should fix this.

I installed 0.5.1 from source on lucid, and I can confirm that this bug is fixed in it.

Any chance we can see this pushed to Lucid proposed? I know VBox OSE works fine, but this is a pretty glaring bug for those desiring the GTK experience.

According to the upstream bug report: vboxgtk has been removed from Debian because it was "not actively developed anymore".
