Bug Description

I have epiphany-browser from dapper-updates, and when I open new tabs it overflows in the tab bar. Previously, arrow heads appear when the number of tabs exceed the size of the tab bar.

This happens whether I use the keyboard shortcut (C-T) or the item in the File menu. I've also observed this in both my desktop and laptop, with or without a clean ~/.gnome2/epiphany folder.

The problem disappears when you select a different tab.

I'll attached a screenshot to better explain the situation.

Update: seems that this isn't specific to Epiphany, as I tried downgrading to the Dapper Final version and the problem still persisted. In Dapper Final this problem isn't present, but upgrading it to the dapper-updates packages shows the problem. I guess one of the dapper-updates package is at fault here.

Update 2: found out through elimination that libgtk2.0-0 might be at fault here.

Screenshot of overflow. The easiest way to reproduce is to open Epiphany and then create a lot of new tabs. This also happens when browsing sites though.

It seems that this problem isn't specific to the version in
dapper-updates: I decided to downgrade to the version that comes with
Dapper Final and the problem still persists.

I've checked the installation in my sister's laptop which has Dapper
Final and the problem I described isn't there. Installing updates
from dapper-updates lead to the problem to manifest itself.

Removed from epiphany-browser since this problem seems to not be specific to the said package.

This happens in gEdit as well.

Found out by elimination that libgtk2.0-0 was causing the problem

Setting source package to gtk+2.0.

Can anyone else reproduce this? I cant just seem to reproduce it in a fresh update of Dapper with libgtk2.0-0 (2.8.18-0ubuntu1)...

Changed in libgtk2.0-0:

Strace of Epiphany. What I did was to open Epiphany, create tabs until the bug came out, and then did an `ALT-F4` to close.

Same process as with the strace of Epiphany

What version of libgtk2.0-0 do you have? Can you do a `dpkg -s
libgtk2.0-0` or check in Synaptic and reply with the result?

I don't know it is changes something or not, but I'm using clearlooks theme on all of the machines I've tried (and succeeded) reproducing this bug.

2.8.18-0ubuntu1 came from dapper-updates. Dapper came with
2.8.17-1ubuntu5. I was kinda thrown off when you mentioned "fresh
dapper" so I checked :-).

Could you downgrade libgtk2.0-0 from 2.8.18-0ubuntu1 to
2.8.17-1ubuntu5? You can do this in Synaptic with the Force Version
option?

Hmm I tried changing themes and the bug was still there.

I can confirm this bug, at least in epiphany. It doesn't happen with 2.8.17 but does happen with 2.8.18.
Changing to another tab "fixes" it
