Bug Description

Binary package hint: ureadahead

 Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala - released in October 2009 and supported until April 2011
package version = ureadahead 0.90.3-2

I ran update manager and it showed some updates for cairo dock, i think open office and a couple other programs in the programs list and in other (cant remember the title) section it said some thing about a kernel image, kernel patch and some other files with i think ureadahead in the list not sure. Half of the way through the update my computer froze up ( not one of the freezes that can be waited out(i think a problem with a memory chip)) so i hard restarted my computer. after i had logged in i got several error messages about updates that had failed to install. I ran update manager again and it showed several of the updates again( cairo dock and such) but no kernel stuff so i hit install updates and when they had almost finished( like the last step (triggering menu or something)) it said that some of the applications/updates had failed to install. This happens for any thing i have installed/upgraded since. The programs and i assume updates work fine after i install them accept for that error message.
Using synaptic to remove has failed and so has re installation and complete removal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ps wonderful os this is the only bug that hasn't been fixed with re installation or a reboot.

Coud you please open a terminal and provide the output of :
ls -l /var/lib/dpkg/info/ureadahead.*
and
md5sum /var/lib/dpkg/info/ureadahead.*

The md5sum doesn't match those of the version installed on your system. This is probably a result of the problem with your freeze issue.

Copy the files /var/lib/dpkg/info/ureadahead.* to some location for history.
remove the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/ureadahead.triggers
and run
$ sudo dpkg --purge ureadahead

If it fails with post-removal script then remove that file too.
then clean your cache
$ sudo apt-get clean
 and try performing the install of ureadahead again.

yes it fixed the problem and i haven't had another related error message( haven't had another error message period)
