Bug Description

https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~allenap/launchpad/display_name-undefined-bug-489342/+merge/15535 introduced an untested change to subscriber.js. There was not time to add a test before the release-critical cut-off, so manual QA was agreed with salgado for that change, with the promise to add a test asap.
