Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer-686

When there are hungarian accents in the subtitles, the text becomes jerky, making the movie unenjoyable.

When compiling from source, the problem is gone, but again, it is more convenient for an user to install from .deb.

I don't know whether the problem is related to the package 686 only, or all the other mplayer packages too.

Here occur same thing with Portuguese_Brazilian subtitles ("emoção" shows "emooãç" or "emoãoç") and package here is mplayer-k7. Some characters in caps dont appear, only "?" in your place, like "É". Subtitle time adjust when playing (Z and X keys) dont work too.

It seems, that subtitles problems with accented characters will be solved simply by changing default font for subtitles - currently mplayer depends on ttf-bitstream-vera font, which doesn't contain a lot of symbols, used in lots of European countries (like Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, etc). We should use ubuntu's default font - ttf-dejavu, which is based on bitstream vera font, but with lots of characters added.

This bug also happens for the romanian language. All diacritics are replace with underscore.

Please apply this in Hardy so DejaVu is used and many non-English languages can have correct subtitles.

Couldn't it depend on just Bitstream vera OR dejavu, instead of depending on both of those? The same goes for Ubuntu-desktop.
