Bug Description

Binary package hint: live-installer

Hi, I've got a machine with both Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.04 installed. I decided to upgrade to 9.10 and to get rid of Windws completely, so I checked the "use whole space disk" option on the installer. Something went wrong, because after rebooting GRUB gave me some error messages (first time it tolds me that it can't load the partitions informations, and after cleaning the partitions with Gparted and doing again the install process it prompted me with a menu, but it doesn't load the OS in any case).
I'm trying again now, deleting the MBR and doing everything another time, but for a first time user it would be a nightmare experience.
Best regards

Well, it seems that the problem is related to the default allocation of partitions created if the BIOS is not 48-bit LBA capable and the HD is big enough.
For me the solution was setting up a small primary partition at the drive beginning and mounting it as /boot, then using an extended partition and creating swap and / logical partitions inside it.
