Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

Currently in /etc/default/transmission-daemon we pass --auth argument to transmission-daemon. It is redundant as /etc/transmission-default/settings.json already contain rpc-authentication-required option set to 1/true.

Because of that users can't disable authentication for transmission webui even if they change it in settings.json - also because of the way transmission-daemon writes configuration their change will be most likely overwritten when they restart daemon.

There shouldn't be a problem of leaving users with insecure daemon as default setting is to require authentication.

Also as 1.76 won't be released before 9.10 release I'd like to get few more fixes backported to 1.75.. Linked branch contain 3 patches backported from svn trunk - two of them are for crashes reported on launchpad (LP: #451554 and LP: #407832), the 3rd one is for potential data loss.
