Bug Description

root@spacecat:~# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [M44 ]: ICE1712 - M Audio Delta 44
                     M Audio Delta 44 at 0x9000, irq 209

Problems with dmix

Attached are the outputs of the commands :
strace -fF -o strace1 aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav (2 instances running concurrently)

and :

ltrace -o ltrace1 aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav (2 instances running concurrently)

would you file a bug against alsa-lib and attach the details from ``cat /proc/asound/cards'' and strace -fF and ltrace output from multiple concurrent aplay executions? strace and ltrace output will be rather large, so please bzip2 them and add them all as attachments (not inline comments)

This was at the request of crimson. (The above is my interpretation of what was ment)

attached are the files

ltrace1.bz2
ltrace2.bz2
strace1.bz2
strace2.bz2

If the commands I have done are incorrect please tell me the correct ones and I will run them again.

Deferring til Edgy, as empirical evidence has shown that only by specifying "-Dplug:dmix" explicitly does this problem rear its head. That is, by default things work properly.
