Bug Description

Binary package hint: xubuntu-default-settings

Double-clicking on a .jpg image on my desktop prompts Mozilla Thunderbird to launch and attempt to load the image. (Actually, the t-bird account creation wizard opens, and I just cancel out of it).

In checking the "Preferred Applications" list, Thunderbird is listed as the default application for these files.

I think that this may be caused by the switch to back to Ristretto as the default image viewer in Xubuntu, and that the default settings just need to changed to reflect this.

Indeed, if we choose to keep ristretto, we need to update etc/xdg/xubuntu/applications/defaults.list to associate image/* to ristretto.desktop instead of gpicview.desktop.

This bug was fixed in the package xubuntu-default-settings - 0.65

---------------
xubuntu-default-settings (0.65) karmic; urgency=low

  * etc/xdg/xubuntu/applications/defaults.list: reassociate image/* to ristretto
    instead of gpicview. LP: #432881
  * etc/xdg/xubuntu/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml: set
    'elementaryXubuntu' as default icon theme.
  * etc/xdg/xubuntu/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-desktop.xml: set
    xubuntu-karmic.png as default wallpaper.
  * debian/control: bump dependency on xubuntu-artwork to (>= 0.34).

I forgot to mention i only installed fresh xubuntu 9.10 last week and this was second update. So some update changed that settings.

This is not a duplicate. This bug was against xubuntu-default-settings, which didn't set the correct default image application handler. Bug #458148 is against thunderbird declaring itself able to open image file whereas it shouldn't.
