Bug Description

The tray icon for network manager when connected to a wired network is just plain ugly in karmic.

While I am very familiar with the shape of the solid black RJ-45 port as a technologist, my grandfather is not and it really has no meaning to him.

I think a better icon would show the connector, rather than the port, as well as a segment of 'wire'.

I rather like wicd's icon.

Agreed, I thought the icon we have at the moment was a black ghost with six eyes from pac-man, and it was only when I got a notification from NM showing the whole image that I realised it wasn't ...

Could someone check out the ethernet icon in Humanity , We have done an icon which addresses this issue.

If need be, we could make one to match Human icon theme too.

Dereck I really like your attitude (noting your grandfathers point of view), that's what is missing from a few developers.
Actually, is there a kind of group who cares about basic usability principles?

Furthermore, I'm not sure if an *empty* connector is adequate to express the *connected* state.

This icon was never meant to make it into the release. It was never approved and never preferred.

Ken Wimer is working on reverting to the previous icon.
