"loading results failed" in vocabulary search picker

Bug Description
Follow-on from bug 419531: while clicking through the page numbers in the project vocabulary search dialog, I get a "Loading results failed." message. Perhaps from a query timeout? It's intermittently reproducible. It's understandable that sometimes the request fails (or at least we don't need another bug about it) but this seems less understandable than a regular oops. Maybe it would be better if there was a 'try again' button.
