Bug Description

Binary package hint: reportbug

When using reportbug from the gui, I get the following message:

*** ERROR: "Ubuntu" BTS is currently unsupported.

Please use "ubuntu-bug" (from the apport package) for reporting bugs in Ubuntu.

You can report bugs to Debian by specifying 'bts debian' in your ~/.reportbugrc
or by passing the -B debian option on the commandline (see reportbug(1))

I don't want to file a bug in ubuntu, and I don't have a ~./reportbugrc file and passing the -B debian option doesn't work either.

Having a useless program in such a prominent place in the Applications menu is silly. reportbug should reroute requests to ubuntu-bug automatically.

Why is this even included in Karmic default if it doesn't work?

This bug was fixed in the package reportbug - 4.10.1ubuntu2

---------------
reportbug (4.10.1ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: do not install .desktop file, so it won't show up in the
    desktop menu anymore (LP: #395126)

Why do you have it installed btw?

for me it's:
$ LANG=C aptitude why reportbug
i ubuntu-dev-tools Recommends reportbug (>= 3.39ubuntu1)

You could safely remove the program (or the menu link). Either use a menu editor or remove the following desktop file:
/usr/share/applications/reportbug.desktop

It should be fixed for Lucid.

I guess it should not be visible in the menu (by default) then - (I wasn't aware of it being in the menu and have been using it from a shell always).

David, how does "reportbug -B debian" fail for you? (you said it does not work)

@nandhp: that looks like a bug with debian-el then.. it should not depend on reportbug for Ubuntu then maybe. On the other hand, it provides "Emacs helpers specific to Debian users" and therefore it makes sense to get Debian related tools through it.

@David and @Gabe: can you provide your output of "aptitude why reportbug", please?

One of the scripts in the debian-el package is debian-bug, which says: "debian-bug depends on either the bug package or the reportbug (>1.21) package for best results."

@Daniel: sorry, I did some house cleaning on my system and uninstalled a lot of stuff that may have depended on it.
