Bug Description

Binary package hint: calibre

Calibre is looking for libunrar.so, which is not available on Jaunty as far as I can see (with apt-file).

This is a bug in the unrar (non free) package not including the library, not calibre

You can use my PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/~andrikos/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=quantal
and install the upgraded unrar which should fix the problem

I also includes an updated calibre version, but it is not necessary for fixing this bug

Actually, maybe the only "bug" in calibre is that the official package does not Suggest: unrar-nonfree

This bug was fixed in the package unrar-nonfree - 1:4.2.4-0.3

---------------
unrar-nonfree (1:4.2.4-0.3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload
  * Another fix for symbols file to prevent FTBFS in many architectures

Recent saucy packages now completely dropped the unrar plugin, as it is non-free software.

Same problem on Ubuntu 17.10 (and already 17.04). Since the original bug report, unrar (free) has been renamed as unrar-free and unrar-nonfree is now unrar. None include libunrar.so. The lib isn't packaged independantly either.

As the unrar-nonfree is tagged as "fix released", I assume it's a regression?

Changed in calibre (Debian):
status: New → Fix Released
