I was trying to turn on my second screen with the following command without checking the modes of the monitor with xrandr -q first:
xrandr --output CRT1 --auto --right-of LCD

I don't think the fglrx driver supports that yet.

It works if I wait 20-30 seconds after connecting the external
monitor. But I would think that it shouldn't crash, but rather say
that an external device has not been detected yet, please try again.

    - X segmentation fault no longer occurs after applying reflections or
      rotations on some systems that support Xrandr 1.2 or higher
    - Catalyst Control Center hot plugging a secondary display no longer
      causes screen corruption in clone mode
