Bug Description

hi all,

i am using a clean install of Jaunty on a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. at 8.10, the mic worked fine, since it had in the ALSA preferences a 'mic boost' bar to customize.. but for some reason, at 9.04 it's gone. when i use the sound recorder, skype or other mic-using software, i can barely hear myself..

(alsactl version 1.0.18)

this is really annoying, since the mic is working, but barely..

thanks in advance..

BTW, alsa doesn't exist in Launchpad.. weird.. so i chose alsa-driver. hope this fits..

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 381885

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

thank for reminding me.. i thought i updated this bug.

using 9.10 i can proudly claim the issue is solved. thanks to the new mixer, a mic volume bar was added, and it's working much better. also, if anyone experienced an issue with his mic while using Skype, just remove the tick in the options menu were Skype says 'allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels' - mic will then be controllable..

thanks!
