I got in touch with one of qGo's developers, since the .desktop file also has badly encoded translation. I'll fix this bug and the translations problem when I get an answer.

However, there will probably be no update for Ubuntu 9.04 for a simple .desktop file mistake (i.e. the fix will only appear in 9.10) unless there's a serious issue - so could you tell us what problem (if any) this causes on your system?

Still didn't get an answer, so I opened a bug on qGo's bug tracker, at https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2828335&group_id=41645&atid=430964

Laurent Bonnaud, can you confirm it causes problem (or not) on your system? There's still time to fix it for Karmic if it does, else that will probably wait till we can get the .desktop translations problems clarified upstream (which means no fix till Ubuntu 10.04 next year).

This problem is only cosmetic, but should be fixed nevertheless.

Yes, nobody proposes to ignore that bug, it's just that there's thousand of packages out there with errors in the .desktop file (no kidding, every time I update a package from upstream I spot those kind of errors even though the stuff has been in Debian/Ubuntu for ages - also has to do with the fact the policy changes about every other month). Considering it takes a few hours to work on that (and even more if you count having to track somebody to upload the fix, and then submitting that to Debian), I'd rather wait till I can fix the whole .desktop file instead of doing the work two times.

Thanks for submitting the bug, it was a good occasion to spot other problems at the same time. Anybody can submit a patch in the meantime, but else I'll fix that when I get more info from upstream on the other subjects. Which could be today or in two month ;)

The version of gqo has not changed in karmic. Therefore the bug is still there.

Yes, I still didn't get those fixed translated strings from upstream, which seems to be solely concentrating on qGo2.

qGo packages are synced straight from Debian. Does fixing a cosmetic issue in a desktop file really outweight the burden of having to merge it afterwards?

There's already a bug open in Debian, where the packaging is done, so the package maintainer is already aware of the situation.

I'll unassign the bug, since I'm not convinced differing from Debian is warranted here, if you want to work on the package in Ubuntu you can do so.
