Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

When you add a new repository to the software sources, Synaptic's quick search function does not work for the new repository.

I added the http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian repository, but when I quick search for "virtualbox" it only finds the one in the Ubuntu repositories. Even if I explicitly select the new repository as Origin, and I see the virtualbox-2.2 package there, when I type virtualbox or even virtualbox-2.2 in the Quick search field it disappears.

When I first used Synaptic I noticed that it said something like "building quick search index". Apparently it doesn't rebuild this index when a new repository is added.

The expected behaviour is that the index is rebuilt when a new repository is added so that quick search will find the new packages.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

Synaptic is being replaced by AppCentre in 9.10 , Hence not a papercut issue. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AppCenter
A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.

Thanks for your report. I can't reproduce this issue in Lucid. Is it still an issue for you ?

No, it appears to have been fixed some time in the last ten months.
