Bug Description

Binary package hint: kile

The embedded viewer in Kile relies on the kviewerpart.so (DVI) and libkghostviewlib.so.0 (PDF) libraries, which are not available anymore in Ubuntu 9.04. Since the embedded viewer was the default in earlier versions, upgrading to 9.04 will render Kile unusable for any technically unexperienced user.

Trying to view a DVI or PDF will always terminate with an unhelpful error message ("Could not find kviewerpart library" or "Could not find libkghostviewlib library"). The very least that should be done would be to point out in the error message that the user needs to configure Kile to use an external viewer.

Hi,

this is known because the upgrade path for the tools is not available at the moment.
A work around is to restore the tools with "restore default tools" in configure->kile->tools.

bye,

This bug was fixed in the package kile - 1:2.1.0~svn1014763beta2-1ubuntu1

---------------
kile (1:2.1.0~svn1014763beta2-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes:
    - debain/control: Don't suggest kile-i18n
    - debian/kile-doc.install: Install to /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML
  * Fixes (LP: #404879, #403140, #400778)
  * Add debian/patches/kubuntu_01_improved_viewpart_warning.diff to instruct
    how to restore tools config; as an out-dated configuration from pre-KDE4
    is the most likely cause of the embedded viewer failing. (LP: #375913)
  * Add kubuntu_02_disable_embedded_kbibtex.diff. No KBibTex-part is
    available for KDE4 and KBibTex porting does not look to happen anytime
    soon, so disable the Embedded KBibTex option for now. (LP: #376004)
