This bug should be fixed in Jaunty, I think.

Here is my SRU application:

1. The bug makes the document look unprofessional and gives users the wrong impression that it is not complete or reviewed.
2. The bug hasn't been addressed in our karmic branch, because that branch *will* be for drafting purposes until string freeze in the karmic cycle. But we should remember to change it!
3. Patch attached.
4. Bug is 100% reproducible by opening the file /usr/share/ubuntu-serverguide/html/C/index.html in a browser.
5. Patch has absolutely no regression potential that I can think of.

I've targeted the bug to Jaunty. I've thought about whether we should combine this fix with other fixes which may arise for Jaunty. But on reflection I think we should just go ahead and fix it now. Other fixes that we may do in the future are likely to take longer because they may involve re-translation of strings, whereas this one is a straightforward build file fix.

Here's the fix.

I think we should go ahead and apply the fix without anything else, unless there are other fixes that are already prepared for SRU. If desired, we can leave the bug open against the package for Karmic so that we don't forget again in 6 months.

+1, I think this is important enough to apply an SRU for the reasons Matthew states, has anyone checked for anything else we can wrap in with it or is this the only one without translation issues?

I don't think there are any other bugs to fix together with this at the moment.

I've uploaded a package fixing the bug to jaunty-proposed and attach here the debdiff. I'll subscribe ubuntu-sru for processing.

Accepted into jaunty-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I've tested the package and it works fine.

I'd be grateful for some more testing - you can get the deb here and install:

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26065822/ubuntu-docs_9.04.10_all.deb

We have had one bug report so far, bug 369378, but that appears to be caused by a scrollkeeper which is unrelated to this update.

Works for me.

Matt, installing the deb you linked didn't replace the server guide HTML pages mentioned in the 'how to confirm' steps, I had to install the ubuntu-serverguide package from the proposed repo for that.

This isn't actually a bug in karmic at this point, and I've added this now to <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReleaseChecklist> which seems more appropriate; closing the karmic task.
