Bug Description

The current site download for Mac (0.46) dmg file works, but produces a French-language version. How do I get the English version?

JimN: the current release allows you to set the language from the interface. What's the native language of your system?

Does just the command 'inkscape' works form a terminal? what's the error message?

no, Inkscape on OS X is a packaged application and the access to the command line launcher script isn't comparable to linux or win32 based systems. AFAIK Inkscape 0.46 has two mechanism to pick up the language: both are set in the 'System Preferences > International > Language': the Inkscape interface language is depending on the 'Languages' list (general pref for ui & menu language for all applications) and the 'Order for sorted lists' (though the way this preference is read and interpreted isn't error-free).

@JimN - get 0.47pre4 ;-)

(just checked: the FAQ entry <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#How_to_change_the_interface_language_.3F> doesn't have additional information)

I've tried to change the system preferences to only display English, however, that does not seem to be working. Is there another way to make Inkscape display in English? I'm working from Mac OS 10.5.8, Inkscape 0.47, and X11 2.4. I don't really know how to write code, but I can follow step-by-step instructions.

@alawrenc - in Inkscape 0.47 you can change the interface language from within Inkscape: Open 'File > Inkscape Preferences > Interface' and change the setting for 'Language' according to your wishes.

Since you don't tell which language is currently used by the interface of Inkscape on your system, I can't give you the translated GUI names, but you can open the Preferences dialog with the second to last icon on the top toolbar, and the 'Interface' page is the fourth item from the bottom in the list on the left side of the preferences dialog.

Regarding changing the settings on the Mac OS X level: Inkscape 0.47 - for what ever reason - picks up the language that is set as 'Order for sorted lists' in the 'Language' tab of the 'International' system preferences.
