Deinstallation doesn't delete all files

Bug Description

Binary package hint: postfix

On purge/delete, postfix package leaves /var/lib/postfix behind. In this directory file master.lock is owned by postfix's UID. When removed, postfix leaves this file and directory. If some other system user is created after that and postfix is reinstalled then, postfix won't start (master.lock will be owned by that other system user).

Anyway, package should remove all its files on purge.

I can confirm this in Jaunty (postfix 2.5.5-1.1)

I'm providing a debdiff which makes postfix remove /var/lib/postfix on purge.

Also, on a "normal" removal (non-purge), the postfix user is left behind. Hence no future confusion regarding file ownership.

Well, I guess this isn't an import issue enough to warrant an SRU? Figure the proper solution is to report the bug upstream to Debian, and keep on eye on it during Karmic development?

Before I submit a report to the Debian BTS, I guess I wouldn't mind a second opinion on the solution applied in my debdiff. Is it sensible enough to be attached as a suggestion along with the bug report to Debian?

Seems good to me. Please forward this bug to debian and link it to this bug.

There isn't really a lot of point in forwarding Ubuntu Postfix bugs to
Debian since Lamont looks at both LP and BTS.

In that case I guess it never hurts to at least upload a karmic debdiff...

I updated the debdiff for the current postfix, and will upload after alpha6 softfreeze.
