Before serving a file from disk to a gzip-enabled client, this module will look for a precompressed file in the same location that ends in ".gz". The purpose is to avoid compressing the same file each time it is requested.

ngx_http_gzip_static_module was introduced in nginx 0.6.24. You must enable support at compile time:

./configure --with-http_gzip_static_module

Thank you for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.
This makes sense, but is a new feature and therefore not appropriate for Jaunty currently. I'm assigning the "later" milestone, so that it gets handled for Karmic.

Now that jaunty is out, is it possible to get this into karmic and then jaunty backports? or better yet, latest nginx 0.7.x, with gzip_static enabled.
