I should probably not forgotten to add that this worked fine in Intrepid and that my user is a member of the audio group. Other than the upgrade process to Jaunty, there has been no changes on the system

Thanks for reporting this bug. This also happens on my Jaunty system and also has a duplicate bug, so I am marking it as confirmed.

After running gweled from the command line multiple times I found that it would start sometimes and wouldn't at others.
So if I start it 16 times it seq faults 4 of those times. More specifically, if I try to run it and it doesn't work, if I immediately try again then it works. If I then close it and wait a short while, then it doesn't work again. I don't know what this means though :)

I am having the same problem in Karmic. Gweled worked just fine until about a week ago. Then, I couldn't get it to start. When I run it via the terminal, I get
$ gweled
Could not initialize sound, reason: Could not open sound device
Segmentation fault

When I tried sudo /usr/games/gweled, that worked, sound and all.

Is a problem with libmikmod that open /dev/dsp directly.

Hi Ivo, try to run Gweled with this command:

pasuspender gweled

This command stop PulseAudio for exclusive sound access by Gweled.

What I've done is opened the music with banshee, and played them. The next time that I have opened gweled, the sound was working. I know, really strange, but true.

If this is fixed, it still has not made it to us users.
When is it likely to propagate to automatic updates?
