Actually we thought that it is fixed, but found other UTF problems and it is fixed now in trunk and will be released in 2.25.92 tonight

Now it depends on python (>=2.6)

But this is still not installable because other packages have not been fixed.

It should be possible to build the package for all supported versions of python. It works on python2.5 if I recompile myself.
