Bug Description

Please sync jeuclid-3.1.4 from debian-science.
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/debian-science/packages/jeuclid/trunk/debian/

I have built the package in this PPA.
https://launchpad.net/~getdeb.packages/+archive/ppa
Maybe these packages cen be QAed?

This package is required to build scilab-5.0.3.

Finally jeuclid made it into debian experimental:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=490749

A description of the proposed changes, with sufficient detail to estimate their potential impact on the distribution:
- Having jeuclid in jaunty allows us to build scilab-5.1 (Requires also a feature freeze)

A rationale for the exception, explaining the benefit of the change:
- Hm, also just to be able to build scilab-5.1

This package is on it's way through Debian's NEW queue. We should keep a watchful eye and see if it makes it in time for FF, otherwise I suggest we import it from the PPA.

The debian directory I used to build the package in the PPA is from debian-science.

So when it makes it into Debian without changes it will be the same package.

During latest motu-release meeting, we decided to accept NEW packages only if they provide key features for Jaunty (i.e blueprints discussed at UDS). I see this package is required in order to have bug #272264 processed, which benefit jeuclid and scilab bring to the release?

Hello Luca,

Scilab is a major software in the scientific and education world. It is widely used in many different fields. The version 5 is a major improvement over the 4.X family. It is now free (under CeCILL license... compatible with the GPL). Here a list of new features: http://www.scilab.org/changes_5/

Packages that Christoph is advocating have been very testing and are lintian free.

I'll ACK this under the Edubuntu domain for getting scilab in.
