Bug Description

(This report pertains to Ubuntu 2005.10 "Breezy Badger")

If I print a test page from the printer properties window, I get no driver or settings information on the printed test page.

It would be nice to have things like:

* printer driver used
* network/local parallell/ local USB/... information
* source ip from which printed
*...

We have changed the default print management system in Ubuntu from gnome-cups-manager to system-config-printer because g-c-m is no longer maintained. Re-assigning. Is this better in s-c-p?

No, still applies to s-c-printer.

Why is this even Incomplete (and now Expired)?

It would be great also to see the name of the machine.

I just printed a test page from a freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 to verify if this wishlist bug is still relevant. It is. Anyone could check that with a few minutes of effort.

Reopening. Please point me in the right direction if wishlist bugs need to be reported outside Malone.

Mark Van den Borre, the test page which you are searching for is the original CUPS test page. You can make system-config-printer using it by taking away the test pages provided by system-config-printer. Simply move the files

/usr/share/system-config-printer/testpage-a4.ps
/usr/share/system-config-printer/testpage-letter.ps

to another place and system-config-printer will use the original test pages.

Till Kamppeter: thanks for the workaround. The wishlist item remains; I think Ubuntu's default printer test page should include this information, instead of a purely static page.

Why are these files in the system-config-printer package at all? They're not upstream and they don't change anything in s-c-p.

They should really be in the cups package.
